The Goal

The Second Amendment won a historic victory on June 26, 2008, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the landmark case of District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to own and bear arms.  To secure that right, however, the American public must be made aware of the reasons why the Founders sought to protect this right.

The goal of the Second Amendment Book Bomb is to help educate more Americans about this right, informing one million Americans about Dr. Stephen P. Halbrook‘s remarkable book, The Founders’ Second Amendment: Origins of the Right to Bear Arms, during the 2008 Christmas Holiday Season and throughout the New Year ahead.

With your pledge to buy the book, we are seeking the following:

  • Make The Founders’ Second Amendment #1 on the New York Times bestseller list.

Background:

Having won three gun-rights cases before the Supreme Court, Dr. Halbrook had filed the Amici Curiae Brief in the Heller case on behalf of 55 members of the Senate, the Senate President, and 250 members of the House of Representatives. And this Brief was based on Dr. Halbrook’s new book, The Founders’ Second Amendment, the authoritative work on the drafting and adoption of the Second Amendment, and the intentions of the men who created it.

However, Washington, D.C., city officials have since chosen to twist the Court’s decision and keep self-defense next to impossible for residents. And with the uncertainties surrounding the incoming Obama administration, securing Second Amendment rights now is paramount. On July 28 a second lawsuit was filed by Dr. Halbrook in Washington on behalf of the same plaintiff Dick Anthony Heller, challenging the District’s restrictive gun laws. Lawsuits are also being filed in Chicago, San Francisco, and other cites, but these cases will hinge on our ability to educate the American people on the imperative of Second Amendment rights, especially given the unprecedented opportunity presented by the Supreme Court’s decision.

On November 4, the election for President of the United States was won by Senator Barack Obama, who despite his rhetoric has consistently and firmly opposed Second Amendment rights. Barack Obama has supported a complete ban on handgun ownership, bans on most all rifle ammunition for sport, a ban on standard capacity magazines, and a 500% increase in the federal excise tax on firearms and ammunition. He refused to sign a friend-of-the-court Brief in support of individual Second Amendment rights in the Heller case, opposes Right-to-Carry laws, supports mandatory micro-stamping, supports mandatory waiting periods, and supported a proposal to ban gun stores within five miles of a school or park, which would eliminate almost every gun store in America. Moreover, he opposes four of the five Supreme Court justices who affirmed an individual right to keep and bear arms in the Heller case, voted against the confirmation of Samuel Alito and John Roberts to the Court, and has stated that as President he would not have appointed Clarence Thomas or Antonin Scalia. Consequently, Eric Holder, Obama’s Attorney General, strongly supports gun control, and Obama’s judicial appointments will similarly be biased against Second Amendment rights.

Begun on America’s Bill of Rights Day, December 15, 2008, we launched the Second Amendment Book Bomb to utilize The Founders’ Second Amendment to let everyone know how critical the Bill of Rights’ Second Amendment is to the protection of liberty. With the help of thousands of people across America, we have been launching the book to the top of national book bestseller lists, making a loud and clear statement that Second Amendment rights are unalienable!

Dr. Halbrook’s book is the first in-depth, book-length account of the origins of the Second Amendment, based on the moving story of the Founders’ courageous fight for liberty, including their own statements as found in newspapers, correspondence, debates, and resolutions. Dr. Halbrook investigates the period from 1768 to 1826, from the last years of British rule and the American Revolution to the adoption of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and the passing of the Founders’ generation. Read the Preface, and get a taste of just how important, historic, and far-reaching this book is.

But since President Obama and much of the mainstream media do not share Dr. Halbrook’s message of constitutional rights, we must bring it to our fellow Americans ourselves. And now we have the tool to do so. Fascinating, seminal and inspiring, The Founders’ Second Amendment is the perfect way both to educate ourselves and to reach friends and family who don’t yet understand Second Amendment rights. Our goal is to reach one million Americans with Dr. Halbrook’s book during the Holiday Season. Will you help?

Let’s make the Second Amendment Book Bomb a phenomenon so great that even the mainstream media will have to take notice. Let’s spread The Founders’ Second Amendment so far and wide that the Second Amendment starts being discussed everywhere by Americans across the political spectrum.

With your help, we can make Dr. Halbrook’s book #1 on the bestseller lists. To make this happen, please pledge to buy at least one copy of the book, and then help spread the word to others. Let’s make this the most amazing and explosive event ever on the right to bear arms, and declare in no uncertain terms that the Second Amendment will be around for a long time to come.
